We’re glad you’ve asked this question as once you’ve decided that a nursery setting is the best place for your child – choosing the right one is a significant decision which requires careful consideration and research. As a parent, you want to ensure that your child is not only safe but also nurtured in an environment that promotes learning and development.

Blue Willow Day Nursery, based in Holmer Green, Bucks (which serves all the surrounding areas of Hazlemere, Little Kingshill, High Wycombe, Amersham) and our sister site in Slough, understands how difficult and daunting this decision can be and have gathered some tips to help you:

Accreditations and Certifications:

Our Slough site was recently inspected by Ofsted in 2023 and the report reflects our commitment to best practice. You can find the report here:

https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50227172

Our Holmer Green in High Wycombe site opened in 2023. We will be inspected within 30 months of opening. Managing Directors, Pav and Yvonne, visit the site weekly for support and training.

Qualified and Trained Staff:

The quality of the staff is crucial in assessing a nursery’s trustworthiness. All our staff have been DBS checked and the majority of our staff have their Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare and also hold the relevant first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding certificates. These are regularly updated through staff training and our procedures are reviewed on an on-going basis to ensure that we’re delivering the very best outcomes for children. By having well trained staff, they create positive and stimulating learning environments for them.

Curriculum and Learning Environment:

Blue Willow have developed our own curriculum with our values and ethos imbedded throughout it. It’s important to us that we raise well rounded independent resilient learners who are able to take on their next challenge at school with ease and confidence. By allowing the child to choose their play and taking away the structures of the day – the children become the centre of their own development. Children are encouraged to explore, experiment, be curious using engaging resources all of which is facilitated and modelled by our fantastic practitioners.

Blue Willow Slough, and Blue Willow Holmer Green, in High Wycombe believe that a nursery should be a safe and nurturing space for each and every child. By promoting a home from home setting, children are welcomed with familiar items such as a couch, family pictures or lamps and with the no shoes indoors, our children feel settled and comforted ready to start their day.

Communication with Parents:

Having clear communication methods means that parents are always familiar with their child’s day at nursery. Before your little one starts, the keyworker will spend time with you and your child getting to know all about your little one. Having a clear picture helps our practitioners build relationships with your child which in turn helps them settle in.

Both Slough and Holmer Green, High Wycombe sites use an app – Famly – to communicate with parents. We’ve had lots of positive feedback and having parents see a snapshot of their child’s day through videos or pictures is invaluable.

Parent Reviews and Recommendations:

In terms of service, who better to refer to than our existing customer parents just like yourselves who had the difficult choice in choosing a childcare provider. Take a look at our reviews or should you wish to speak to one of our parents, please let us know and we would be delighted to set this up for you.

Visit the Nursery:

We always recommend parents visit the nursery with their little ones.
